Graduate student, science journalist and amateur potter
A love of ceramics seems to be a family trait. My grandfather was a potter and my aunt throws pots for fun. There is a certain kind of magic that happens when creating something out of what is effectively just a lump of mud. I am addicted; both to the products and the process. It’s so different from academia and is an excellent way to unwind.
I mainly throw pots in stoneware or porcelain – for the latter I am taking lessons with the amazing Sarah Went. I enjoy making functional pieces that are suitable for everyday use. I still get excited every time I use my utensil container. Nevertheless I will occasionally experiment with sculptural pieces.
Check out the gallery below to see examples of what I like to make, finished and unfinished pieces.
